The HUDSY TV Advisory Council represents varied Hudson Valley communities, injects unique and meaningful wisdom into all aspects of our culture and provides us with the experience & guidance from a team of advisors that have been there before. We are honored and excited to have these members on our Advisory Council during this exciting and formative chapter at HUDSY.

Jon Bowermaster is a Hudson Valley writer, filmmaker, adventurer, and a six-time grantee of the National Geographic Expeditions Council. He has written 11 books and produced and directed more than 30 documentary films including “Dear President Obama,” “Antarctica, on the Edge,” “After the Spill',' and “Ghost Fleet.” He and his One Ocean Media Foundation / Oceans 8 Films team have focused on a series of short films about the environmental risks to, and hopes for the Hudson River Valley, the birthplace of the American environmental movement. Bowermaster is the President of the One Ocean Media Foundation, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Adventurers and Scientists for Conservation, and is a visiting lecturer in Bard College’s Environment and Urban Studies Department. Jenna Flanagan first knew she was destined for a career in journalism as a child, while watching the weekly reports of the Muppet News Flash. After attending a journalism camp at SUNY New Paltz at age 12, she wrote for her high school newspaper and went on to a staff position at Seton Hall University‘s campus newspaper while earning her B.A. in communications and journalism. Beginning as a freelance news production assistant and engineer at 1010WINS in 1996, she worked her way up to assistant editor before taking her first on-air position at WBGO Newark Public Radio where she won a Garden State Association of Black Journalists award. Flanagan later spent six-and-a-half years writing, reporting and producing for All Things Considered for WNYC New York Public Radio before becoming a producer and on-camera reporter for WMHT, Albany’s PBS member station. In 2015, she became a correspondent for The WNET Group’s new newsmagazine show, MetroFocus and was named the show’s host in 2016.

Alonzo “AJ” Jordan Jr. is a community advocate and filmmaker deeply invested in the youth and people surrounding him, his culture, and family. Serving his community is where his love for filmmaking was first discovered and developed, and he recently merged food and anti-racist social justice work with the Kingston YMCA Farm Project, an extremely important program to him and the local area. Growing up in the Hudson Valley, Jordan Jr. has a firm grasp of his environment and what can benefit his neighbors. He has worked on Kingston Land Trust’s Pine St. African Burial Ground project, is a mentor to high school students, and very much acknowledges the power behind his voice.

Cynthia Kane is an Alfred I. duPont Columbia University Award winner, a Peabody Award winner, and an Emmy Award-winning producer who has helped transform the way global documentaries are seen on U.S. television. She co-created DOCday on Sundance Channel in 2002, shepherded over 150 international and U.S. co-productions for public media at ITVS, and has also commissioned documentaries and series for Al Jazeera America. Kane produces educational workshops and webinars for Women Make Movies, has been an Emmy juror for the International Documentary Awards since 2006, is a Hot Docs Blue Ice Labs mentor, a member of American Film Showcase and participates frequently in filmmaker labs and training initiatives. Serving as executive producer, co-producer, and creative consultant on a number of projects over the years, she currently works as a freelancer with Barbara Kopple and Cabin Creek Films.

Nina Bird Lawrence is a writer, filmmaker, podcaster, and storyteller who has a degree in documentary filmmaking from SUNY Purchase. She has shopped for stories in Hollywood for Michael Shamberg, Michael Nozik, Jane Berliner, Benny Medina, and Jeff Field. In acquisitions and programming, she has attended the Sundance Film Festival many times and has been to Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, and several other festivals for Tribeca Film Festival, Tribeca Shortlist, Gaiam, and GaiaTV. As Director of Programming for Bond/360, she created release and rollout plans for “Strike A Pose,” “The Settlers,” “Maurizio Cattelan: Be Right Back,” “Karl Marx City,” “The War Show,” and others. She is currently hard at work on UNCOVERAGE, a podcast about her childhood growing up in a Tibetan Buddhist cult.

Dylan Thuras is the co-founder and creative director of Atlas Obscura, a digital magazine and travel company dedicated to inspiring wonder and discovery around the world. Thuras is co-author of the #1 New York Times bestseller “Atlas Obscura: An Explorer’s Guide to the World’s Hidden Wonders” and New York Times bestselling kids book “An Explorer's Guide for the World's Most Adventurous Kid.” He is also the host of The Atlas Obscura Podcast, as well as a correspondent for NPR’s All Things Considered. He lives in the Hudson Valley with his family.

Brad Warkins is a senior executive with a career in digital media, edutainment and technology spanning over 30 years. He brings significant streaming experience to HUDSY, having recently served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Gaia Inc, a streaming media company that was launched and grew from 0 to 750,000 paying subscribers under his leadership. Brad is currently Chief Operating Officer of Genius Group Ltd.
